Ian Melrose was always an eccentric child, convinced he could see strange reptilian men everywhere he went. While initially his parents passed his behavior off as fantasy, when Ian entered his teens ranting and raving about how the lizard-men were plotting to "get" him, his parents decided that professional help was a necessity. After a year of seeing a psychologist, it was determined that the best place for Ian to get help was in a private institute run by a Dr. Ula Malone. By the time Ian realized that he had been kidnapped, it was far too late. Experimented upon night and day by Dr. Malone, Ian developed the ability to psionically control ice, provided a source of water exists for him to manipulate. The lizard-men have been curiously absent from life as the third of the "Sons of Nowhere," and Ian's world view began to twist under her "care." Ian credits Dr. Malone with curing his lifelong psychosis, and has grown fiercely loyal to her as a result.
